Saturday, time for the doubles. As Hungary lead by 2-0 after Friday's matches, the Egyptian team was already under huge pressure and needed to win to keep the chance to advance to second round.
The match started some 20 minutes two late with Karim Maamoun serving. The guest player had some problems to win the game, but got broken in the fifth game. The Egypt players were under pressure on own serve, whereas the Hungarian players did a quite good job on the mount. Nevertheless, Gergely Kisgyorgy faced break point in the tenth game, when he served for the set, but he saved the point and the Hungary team won first set.
After three thrilling games at the beginning of second half, both teams served extremely well and gave their opponents no chance to break. Nevertheless, there was a great showdown at the end of the set, when both Hungarian players faced break points against their serve. The Egyptian team even had a set point, when Kisgyorgy, who showed a great fight and definitely was the best player on court faced a 30:40 at 4-5 score. Finally, the second set was decided by the tie-breaker. Like the whole set before, the tie-breaker was very stunning and levelled, so that until the tenth point there was just one "tiny break" each. But as I mentioned, the tie-breaker was very similar to the set and the whole match - and like in the whole match, the Maamoun brothers wasted their chances and gave away too many of them to the Hungarian team. Karim Maamoun was serving when Hungary had their first set point at a 6:5 tie-break score. He just just needed to smash away a simple shot - but the smash was too long. Second Set Hungary.
The Egyptian players had another great opportunity in the fourth game of third set. Kisgyorgy faced a 15:40 at own serve, but he gave his opponents no chance. Four incredible serve smashers - wow, that was a really fascinating show! The guest players seemed to be impressed, too, and lost their serve afterwards. Nothing special happened afterwards until Kisgyorgy served for the match - but two great shots and a double fault gave the Egyptian team a break point. They converted, so Karim Maamoun just needed to win his serve to tie the score. The Egyptian doubles team played well first, had a game point, but Kisgyorgy returned extremely well to deuce the score. The Hungarian team had two match points, but the Maamouns managed to come back. At Ad Egypt, Mohammed Maamoun had a must-make opportunity when he just needed to volley the ball off court, but his shot was too heavy too close to the net, so the ball went up very high directly to the Hungarian players who slammed the ball down the line. Ad Hungary and third match point for Hungary now who converted this chance to make their country's team advance to second round.
Though there were no Egyptian fans in the arena and the Hungarian crowd was very quiet which gave this tie just a very slight Davis Cup atmosphere, it was again a great deal to watch this duel in one of the most fascinating sports competitions.
