Matthew Smith (GBR) - Harsh Mankad (IND) 7:6(5) 6:1

My original fanclub report taken from Sports-India.com:
Harsh started to try to put Smith under pressure, especially by playing serve and volley at own serve. This worked for the first some games, but Smith got used to it more and more. On the other hand, Smith served well though he seemed to be injured. Both players really had no problems with their serve, but Harsh took his first break point which gave him the 4-2 lead. Harsh served for the set leading 5-4, but he gave Smith the chance to come back at 30-40. Smith took it, the set was tied again. Tie-Break time. A net chord caused Smith to lead 6-4 at own serve there, but he wasted his first set point. Harsh was on serve now, but a volley shot was just some inches off court - 5:7 in tie-break.
The story of second set is short and hard: whatever Smith did, succeeded. He really played well. When Harsh was on the net, you could be sure that Smiths passing shots just hit the ground right before or that his lob was good enough to beat Harsh. He hit some great baseline strokes, too, whereas Harsh sometimes was quite unlucky with his shots.
Nevertheless, Harsh did a good job in that one. He hit some really smooth return shots as well as volleys - and he never gave up! Of course, Smith was the better player today and deserved to win.
