Germany controlled this match from the very beginning, in which both teams needed to win to finish the tournament first. Nevertheless, there were just a very few chances for both teams. Only in the final minutes of the first period, Germany managed to score twice, both times by corner kick goals. Just 18 seconds after the break, Russia closed up and have even been able to tie the score right afterwards. In a second period full of scuffles, aggressions and dirty play, most German players acted quite cool and finally raised the lead to 5:1.
