On the first matchday of the German Bundesliga season, 2005/06 season second placed FCR Duisburg hosted the Bad Neuenahr team.
Both teams acted quite nervous. Nevertheless, Duisburg had the better start in the match. In the 12th minute Simone Laudehr headed a Sonja Fuss free kick in the net to score the 1:0 lead. Five minutes later, it was another Fuss free kick which caused major trouble in the Neuenhar penalty area, but the hosts were not able to convert one of their chances to score another goal in this situation. After this bad start, Bad Neuenahr played better, especially in the second period, when they put pressure on the FCR nearly over all the time. Nevertheless, Dietmar Schacht's team was unable to score in one of their great chances, so that Duisburg luckily won their first home game.
