This was the first ladies' match I watched during the European Cup. I was a bit confused because the organisation was positively
worse than in Weißenfels, especially the ballboys did not seem to be as well-trained as in the main arena. Secondly,
the teams had to take place on the lowest rows of the stands instead of a real team bench.
After Dielikon from Switzerland has beaten the Czech team from Liberec the day before, they were the favourite in this game.
They took an early lead but despaired then because the Latvian defense war incredibly strong. Though the ball was in the Latvian
half of the rink nearly all the time, Dietlikon did not find a way to score another goal until first break.
Though the powerplay was not that good, Riga managed to score a powerplay goal at the beginning of second period. Riga's goalie
did an impressive job, but could not reject the ball from hitting the net in the 26th and 30th minute. After a wonderful and
successful penalty shot for Riga, the Swiss team scored the 4-2 goal three minutes before the period break.
Even when Dietlikon managed to lead with four goals, Riga never stopped fighting. Though Dietlikon was the definite better
team, Riga did an impressive job.
