Like the Oilers-Pixbo duel in the men tournament, this was the highest-class match, this was the top match at the ladies. The referees were from Germany.
Team Classic, who have played a great tournament so far, might have been slightly the favourite team in this match. As the lead 3-0 after 18 minutes in an even-strengthed matched, in which Södertalje wasted several great chances, they seemed to be on the road to victory. Even the first goal for the "Rockets" did not seem to change this.
Södertalje started very good in the second period. Again, they wasted their chances while Classic said "Thanks" during a powerplay in the 334th minute. The match got better and better, especially when Södertalje's second goal was scored two minutes after the 4-1 goal.
The third period was a fantastic duel which both teams and the spectators won't forget for a long time. Again, Södertalje forced Classic to play defensively, but did not find any lacks to take profit. Forechecking all the time, Södertalje needed a fast break to score the 3-4 goal. No goal was scored until three minutes to go, when Södertalje changed the goalie to a sixth field player. 48 seconds to go, Classic got short-handed by a 2 minute penalty. Twenty-two seconds before the fat lady sings the referees gave a penalty shot for Södertalje. The Swedish player started, fooled the goalie and... hit the post.
A dramatic and highest-class match ended with a win for Classic, who had an incredible defense.
